Hu Tao Best Weapons
As a Main DPS, Hu Tao has a few weapons she can use. Here are some different options:
|Staff of Homa||5-star|
|Primordial Jade Winged-Spear||5-star|
Hu Tao’s best in slot is easily Staff of Homa; this weapon was practically made for her. Not only does it feature a huge CRIT DMG substat of 66.2% at Level 90, but its passive is also perfect for her: it increases her HP by 20%, and bestows her with an ATK bonus based on her Max HP. This is particularly good for her, as her Skill and Burst both scale with her Max HP. Alternatively, she can also work well with the Primordial Jade Winged-Spear, thanks to its CRIT Rate substat.
In terms of 4-star weapons, Hu Tao has a few good options. Dragon’s Bane is a solid choice if your Hu Tao has a decent CRIT ratio, since it has an Elemental Mastery substat rather than CRIT. However, Elemental Mastery is great for her, since it will increase the DMG of her Reactions, which is important when playing her. Alternatively, Deathmatch is a great choice if you need more CRIT Rate on her, and Blackcliff Pole is ideal if you’re lacking in CRIT DMG.
Hu Tao Best Artifacts
Hu Tao has a couple different sets she can use. Either you could use 4-Piece Crimson Witch to increase the DMG of her Pyro DMG and Reactions, or you could use 4-Piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence. Generally, 4-Piece CWoF is better on her, since it increases her Reaction DMG and allows you to use her Burst more regularly than you can with 4-Piece SR. However, if you want to purely focus on her Charged Attacks, 4-Piece SR is your best choice.
For your Artifact main stats, you will want to run:
- HP% Sands
- Pyro DMG Bonus Goblet
- CRIT DMG/Rate Circlet
In terms of Artifact substats, you’ll want to focus on ATK%, Elemental Mastery, some Energy Recharge and both CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate.
How to Use Hu Tao
Her Elemental Skill, Guide to Afterlife, consumes a set portion of her HP to knock the surrounding enemies back and enter the Paramita Papilio state. Paramita Papilio increases Hu Tao’s ATK based on her Max HP at the time of entering this state. ATK Bonus gained this way cannot exceed 400% of Hu Tao’s Base ATK. It also converts attack DMG to Pyro DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion. Charged Attacks apply the Blood Blossom effect to the enemies hit, and also has increased resistance to interruption. Blood Blossom makes it so enemies affected by Blood Blossom will take Pyro DMG every 4s. This DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG. Paramita Papilio ends when its duration is over, or when Hu Tao has left the battlefield or fallen.
Her Elemental Burst, Spirit Soother, commands a blazing spirit to attack, dealing Pyro DMG in a large AoE. Upon striking the enemy, it regenerates a percentage of Hu Tao’s Max HP. This effect can be triggered up to 5 times, based on the number of enemies hit. If Hu Tao’s HP is below or equal to 50% when the enemy is hit, both the DMG and HP Regeneration are increased.
Her Ascension Talent, Sanguine Rouge, is also very important to her kit. It makes it so when Hu Tao’s HP is equal to or less than 50%, her Pyro DMG Bonus is increased by 33%.
Hu Tao is widely known as one of the best DPS characters in Genshin Impact, and for good reason. Both her Skill and Burst are capable of dealing huge amounts of DMG – even more so when coupled with a Melt or Vaporize Reaction. Because of this, you’ll want to almost always pair her with a Hydro or Cryo Sub-DPS / Support. The best character for this is Xingqiu, thanks to his off-field Rainswords, although Mona, Kaeya, Chongyun or Rosaria can work in a pinch.
Best Team Comps
Therefore, one of the best team comps for Hu Tao consists of herself, Xingqiu, Albedo and Zhongli. Xingqiu’s Rainswords will Vaporize Hu Tao’s Pyro-infused Charged Attacks, and Albedo and Zhongli will trigger Geo Resonance, which has the following properties: Increases shield strength by 15%. Additionally, characters protected by a shield will have the following special characteristics: DMG dealt increased by 15%, dealing DMG to enemies will decrease their Geo RES by 20% for 15s. Furthermore, Albedo will act as a Geo Sub-DPS, while also boosting Hu Tao’s Elemental Mastery with his Burst, and Zhongli will be a strong shielder.
Another team you could try is Hu Tao, Xingqiu, an Anemo Support such as Sucrose or Kazuha, and Thoma. This team is a lot cheaper and accessible, and is also capable of dealing good DMG. This is thanks to Thoma’s shield, which applies Pyro to your opponent, which can then be Swirled by your Anemo Support (who should be equipped with 4-Piece Viridescent Venerer.) This will then increase your Hu Tao’s Pyro DMG, allowing her to sweep your opponents.
While neither of these teams features a healer, if you build your shielders well enough, you shouldn’t need one too desperately. This is because Hu Tao works best below 50% HP, and so by keeping her shielded instead of healed, her HP should slowly decrease with uses of her Skill, but she should be well-protected from incoming attacks. Therefore, she’ll be dealing more DMG.
