SEGA has teased an upcoming announcement on their twitter coming next month. If the image if anything to by, it’s something to do with the SEGA Mega Drive.
A New Mega Drive?
The tweet translates to:
“\ Urgent Notice! /
Live broadcast to announce Sega’s new project will be delivered from 20:00 on June 3 (Friday). Appearance is Hiroyuki Miyazaki, Yosuku Okunari…. Does that mean….?”
The image that comes with the tweet is a rather chocolatey Mega Drive controller, suggesting that we could potentially see a Mega Drive related announcement. Perhaps we could get a release of a Mega Drive mini, in the same vein as the previously released retro Nintendo consoles and the PlayStation Classic? The tweet comes amidst SEGA gearing up to release the upcoming Sonic collection, Sonic Origins, featuring Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles and Sonic CD.
Who are the people mentioned?
For those unaware, Yosuku Okunari is a creative producer for Sega who worked primarily for marketing during the era of the Sega Saturn. He worked on games such as 3D Sonic The Hedgehog and Panzer Dragoon, and worked directly under Hideki Okamura. Hiroyuki Miyazaki is an execute manager of Sega, having worked on games such as Sonic Advance, Phantasy Star Online and Shining Soul. It’s unclear as of yet if the inclusion of these two has anything to do with the project itself, but the tweet itself seems to tease such a thing and suggest that maybe it might be worth looking into their history with the franchise and the company itself for clues.
