The Last of Us is regarded as one of the best action-adventure games of all time. It was originally developed by Naughty Dog studio (of Uncharted fame) back in 2013 for the PS3 and was published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It since got a Remastered version for the PS4, and now another version (labelled ‘Part I’) built with the same engine and game mechanics as the sequel (The Last Of Us Part II).
The singleplayer game tells the story of Joel and Ellie in a world where the United States has been hit by a mutant Cordyceps fungus outbreak for the last twenty years. It transformed humans into aggressive creatures known as the Infected and human bandits roam the country. Amid this chaos, Joel has been tasked to smuggle the teenage Ellie to safety.
The original version also had a multiplayer mode that developed a cult following – but what about the latest version?
Is The Last of Us Part I Cross Platform?
The Last of Us Part I is one of the major titles to grace Windows PC in 2023. This will be the first time any version of the game is available on more than one platform. The game was first released on PS3 years ago, and back then, no one would have thought that The Last of Us would one day have a PC port.
It is all due to Sony’s newfound interest in PC gaming. The game is already available on PS5, the PC gamers just had to wait a bit longer. In short: yes, The Last of Us Part I is cross platform.
- The Last of Us was first released on PlayStation 3 in June 2013.
- After that, Sony released The Last of Us Remastered for PlayStation 4 a year later, in June 2014.
- The Last of Us Part I launched on the PlayStation 5 in September 2022 and has a PC release date of March 2023.
Does The Last of Us Part I have Cross Platform Progression?
The Cross-Platform Progression is an excellent feature that enables you to save your game’s progress on a console or a PC and continue playing on a different platform. The Last of Us Part I for PC is one of the highly anticipated ports of the year, and a PS5 version of the game is also available, released earlier. But, people are wondering whether The Last of Us Part I will come with Cross Platform Progression support.
Based on what we know so far, The Last of Us Part I won’t support Cross Platform Progression. So, you cannot switch to the PC after saving the game on PS5.
Is The Last of Us Part I Crossplay?
Crossplay means players can play The Last of Us Part I against/with people on different platforms in multiplayer mode. i.e. you can play the game from console to console or PC to console in multiplayer mode.
This obviously means the game has to have a multiplayer mode, but unfortunately it appears there’s no multiplayer or Co-Op mode if you play The Last of Us Part I on PS5 or PC. So, there’s no Crossplay.
The developer of the game, Naughty Dog, is supposedly working on a brand new standalone multiplayer game which was announced alongside The Last of Us Part 2. There are still no details on this new multiplayer game from the developers. Hopefully, we will get some in 2023.
If you play The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 or The Last of Us on PS3, there’s a multiplayer mode called Factions, but there’s still no Crossplay.

The Last Of Us Part I tells the same story as the original, and you have almost the same gameplay, but with a couple of features brought over from Part II. However, the game is completely different visually. Naughty Dog worked from scratch to give a facelift to this game, also making the characters look older, weathered, and true to life.
Will The Last of Us Part I be Crossplay?
